Rules
We've created a guide explaining how to play Old Maid in detail, so if you're new to the game, we suggest heading over there to get acquainted with the rules. The guide includes an interactive tutorial that will teach you the rules while playing the game. If you're just in need of a quick refresher, look no further.
The objective of Old Maid is to form pairs and not be the player left with the Old Maid card. Players start with cards dealt from a deck that has one Queen removed (making one unpaired Queen - the Old Maid). Players take turns drawing cards from each other's hands. When you draw a card that pairs with one in your hand, you discard the pair. The game continues until all pairs have been made and one player is left with the Old Maid card - they lose!
Strategy
Playing:
- Pay attention to which cards other players draw and discard to track potential pairs.
- When offering your hand, try to spread cards evenly to make it harder for the drawer to avoid the Old Maid.
- Remember which player has been accumulating cards without making pairs - they might have the Old Maid.
- If you suspect you have the Old Maid, try to position it randomly in your hand when offering.
- Watch for patterns in how players draw cards - some players tend to pick from the same positions.
